Letters to a distant Cousin

My cousin May and I, separated for more than 55 years and a continent away, write frequently now. In an effort to remake strangers into close familiars, we write about our thoughts and feelings. These writings are excerpts from those letters .........g.p.loinan

More than a Democrat

Dear May-be-more-than-a-Democrat ,

How can anyone be "More than a Democrat" ? ...you would probably have to leave our shores and travel 6,000 miles ( from CA ) East to the isle of Briton where I came across the following quote from "The Official Liberal Democrat Website".

"We Liberal Democrats prize freedom of the individual, underpinned by a safety net for the vulnerable, in our society. We are defenders of the public services, free at the point of use. We are internationalist in outlook – pro UN, pro Commonwealth and pro Europe. Our Liberal background makes us wary of an over-mighty state and dedicated to civil liberties. We are enthusiasts for the green agenda." Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy

Now who could argue with that platform ?

From this I deduce that 'they' champion individual freedoms and civil liberties, free from the heavy hand of excessive government while simultaneously providing free public and welfare services to all. They believe in looking outward internationally and are, at once, in support of a world order ( pro UN ), themselves (pro Commonwealth) and Europe .... all at the same time ..... Oho, and they like the color green as well.

Now THAT is "More-than-a-Democrat"

Love, Repubi-Greg
